Attorney Greg Hicks, Law Director

Attorney Gregory V. Hicks is the Director of Law for the City of Warren, Ohio, having first been elected to the position in January 1992.

 

Attorney Hicks is a decorated U.S. Army / Army Reserve veteran, serving with distinction as a commissioned officer with the U.S. Army Military Police Corps. He commanded various elements of the Military Police Corps to include serving as the Commander of a U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Field Office (USACID). He retired from the Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 33 years of faithful service to our nation.

 

Prior to receiving his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Akron School of Law, Attorney Hicks served the citizens of Warren as a police officer with the Warren Police Department, attaining the rank of Detective Sergeant.

 

Attorney Hicks is licensed to practice law in all Ohio courts, as well as the Northern District of Ohio U.S. Federal Court and the United States Supreme Court. Recognized for his experience and knowledge in municipal law, Attorney Hicks has been elected by his peers to serve as Vice President of the Ohio Municipal Attorney’s Association and as the Ohio Chairman of the International Municipal Attorney’s Association.

 

The Director of Law serves as the legal counsel for the City of Warren and provides legal advice and representation to all the City officials, City departments, and City Council. The law director also prepares and reviews all legislation and contracts on behalf of the city.

 

The Director of Law also serves as the Chief Criminal Prosecutor in the Warren Municipal Court, where he oversees a team of assistant prosecutors assigned to the courts and is responsible for the prosecution of all criminal cases heard in the municipal court. These include cases involving the Warren Police Department, Warren Township Police Department, Howland Police Department, Champion Police Department, the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Ohio Department of Resources, as well as any other state or local law enforcement agency that operates within the court’s jurisdiction.

 

The law director is elected to a four year term by the voters of the City of Warren.
