When do I need a building permit?

When do I need a zoning permit?
If your new or remodeling building construction is over $400.00 in value, you must possess a zoning permit. Apply at the Engineering, Planning and Building Department, on the second floor of 540 Laird Avenue SE. Make sure to bring a sketch or a plot plan.

 

When do I need a Street Improvement Permit?
If you are working in or near the street, from six inches (6") behind the sidewalk to six inches (6") behind the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street, you need a Street Improvement Permit and must retain a Licensed Contractor to perform the work. These may be obtained at  the Engineering, Planning and Building office, on the second floor of 540 Laird Avenue SE.

 

How do I know if a contractor is registered with the City?
Call the office at 330.841.2562, and we will be glad to answer    your questions about any specific contractor. A list of licensed street contractors is also available at your request.

 

Whose responsibility is it to repair my sidewalk?
It is the homeowner's responsibility to repair their sidewalk, but the Engineering Division does arrange for the repair of sidewalk damaged by trees planted between the sidewalk and the street. If you think you have a tree-damaged sidewalk, call the office at 330.841.2562 for an inspection.

 

Where do I obtain a permit?
The Engineering, Planning and Building Department office is located at 540 Laird Avenue SE, on the second floor.  The Building Division offices are located to the right of the stairs, and the Engineering and Zoning offices are located to the left.

 

Directions:
From East Market, drive south on Laird Avenue SE approximately one mile, and look for the two story brick building on the right, next to the water tower.

From Youngstown Road SE, turn north onto Laird Avenue SE and look for the two story brick building on the left side, immediately following the City of Warren Water Department offices.
